The Miami Hurricanes were dazed by Wake Forest early and never quite recovered, losing to the Demon Deacons in an 80-65 blowout on Saturday. The loss was the very first for Miami in ACC play this season.

The Hurricanes had earned their highest ranking in Miami basketball history at No. 2 overall. However, point guard Shane Larkin failed to get anything going offensively, Rion Brown was awful off the bench, and no one else was able to overcome the efforts of the Wake guard tandem of CJ Harris and Codi Miller-McIntyre.

Harris finished 7-of-13 overall from the floor, but it was his sniping from beyond the three-point arc that made him a star against his ACC rivals. The senior buried all five of his three-point attempts en route to a game-high 23 big points. His back court teammate was equally as brilliant, finishing 6-for-8 from the field for 15 points and another three assists.

The two outclassed Miami’s star tandem of Durand Scott and Shane Larkin. Each Canes guard finished 5-of-12 from the field and combined for six turnovers.

The Deacons entered the afternoon at 11-14 overall, with a putrid 4-9 record against the SEC. However, their guards’ collective hot hand helped Wake Forest jump out to a massive, 42-29, halftime lead, from which they never looked back.

While Wake moves to 12-14, Miami falls to 22-4 and 13-1 against the rest of the conference.
