Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp receives contract extension
Coach Boom is Gator Nation’s man. On Tuesday the Gainesville Sun reported that Muschamp received a contract extension through the 2017 season.
In just two years at the helm of the Florida Gators football program, Muschamp has turned around a program that had been left for dead by previous coach Urban Meyer.
The Gators are currently riding a No. 4-ranking and an 11-1 record to what will most likely be a BCS bowl birth.
The extension came prior to the start of the 2012 season. Athletic Director Jeremy Foley made the following statements to the Orlando Sentinel regarding the extension:
“Dr. Machen and I believed in the leadership and direction of the football program this summer and we made a decision to extend Coach Muschamp’s contract an additional year this past August, prior to the start of the season. The financial terms are unchanged, but he is now under contract for the University of Florida through the 2017 season.”
Muschamp’s original contract was a five-year deal worth $13.75 million. Foley exercised a one-year extension in January to keep Muschamp through 2016, and in August opted for the additional one-year extension to keep coach in Gainesville through 2017.
Muschamp will also receive a $500,000 bonus for the 2016 extension, a $250,000 bonus for the 2017 extension, and a $100,000 bonus for beating FSU and receiving a BCS bowl birth.
