On Thursday in East Lansing, an estimated crowd of 2,500 individuals gathered in the Breslin Center to celebrate Lacey Holsworth’s life. The 8-year-old, who recently passed away from a battle with cancer, had that kind of impact on those around her.
Musical performances and videos of young Lacey filled the arena. For more than 90 minutes, friends and family gathered to remember a life that was cut too short, and appreciate the eight years they were blessed with Princess Lacey.
One of the more touching moments came when Lacey’s closest buddy, Michigan State senior Adreian Payne, performed a “silent dunk” for her. Payne and his Spartan teammates gathered beneath the rim, where he rose up and threw down one of the most powerful dunks of his life.
For more on the evening, USA Today Sports’ Joe Rexrode has a fantastic take on the event, including additional photos and quotes from those in attendance.
