If you’re not familiar with the “Ice Bucket Challenge,” it is a viral game/contest aimed at bringing awareness to ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Think: icing, but with a charitable intent. The following description from the ALS Association sums it up best.
The challenge involves people getting doused with buckets of ice water on video, posting that video to social media, then nominating others to do the same, all in an effort to raise ALS awareness. Those who refuse to take the challenge are asked to make a donation to the ALS charity of their choice.
Now that you have a background, hopefully that better explains the lunacy brought forth by Edmonton Oilers captain Andrew Ference. Simply getting doused by a bucket of ice water wasn’t enough for this madman. Nope, he saw the need to bring in a Zamboni and a whole mess of snow into the mix.

And just like that, the Ice Bucket Challenge got really real.
