Carmelo Anthony decided today that he will opt out of the final year of his contract with the New York Knicks. Anthony has until Monday to officially inform the team of his decision.
He will now become a free agent, leaving a measly $23.3 million on the table.
Early candidates to take Melo are the Chicago Bulls and the Houston Rockets. In order for the Bulls to make room for Anthony, they may have to trade Carlos Boozer and Taj Gibson. For the Rockets, they would have to wave goodbye to Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik.
As planned, Carmelo Anthony will file notice with Knicks on Monday that he's opted-out of 2014-'15 season on contract, source tells Yahoo.
