LeBron James made his official return to Ohio on Friday night, and boy was The King’s Court in session. The event was held at the University of Akron’s football stadium, and was packed to the gills – Darren Rovell reported that 30,000 plus were expected to attend.

Football stadium in Akron expecting 30K for tonight’s LeBron homecoming. # of Zips games that had that crowd since 2000? ZERO. — darren rovell (@darrenrovell) August 8, 2014
The rally, at least from the sound of Ohio.com’s live blog, played out like something between a carnival and a WrestleMania main event. There were welcome home messages from the University of Akron’s president and city’s mayor, routines from dancing troupes, music from the Black Keys and a live performance from Skyler Grey.
Once LeBron entered, he held the crowd in the palm of his hand – going as far as leading the stadium in the O-H-I-O chant.
When it was time for his final remarks, LBJ pulled out his heart, laid it on the stage for fans to lap up, and then dropped the mic on the entire “welcome home” parade. It was time to go to work.
