NBA journeyman Paul Pierce agreed late last night to a deal with the Washington Wizards that gives him some flexibility for the future. His two year deal will pay him $11 million and allow him to opt-out next season and join free agency if he chooses. He announced his move via Twitter early this morning.

The contract favors Washington in the short term too because it will allow them to clear cap space when their hometown boy Kevin Durant becomes a free agent at the end of 2016. Although it might be hard to imagine Kevin Durant leaving Oklahoma City, most never thought LeBron James would leave Cleveland.
The Wizards moved fast and effectively after Trevor Ariza signed with the Houston Rockets. With the addition Pierce, the Wizards should be in the top five of next year’s Eastern Conference Playoff picture.
There is no word yet on what Kevin Garnett is doing in Brooklyn after both his coach, Jason Kidd, and good friend Pierce packed up and left town.
