Former Auburn Tight End Philip Lutzenkirchen Killed In A Car Accident

Former Auburn and All SEC standout Philip Lutzenkirchen was killed early Sunday morning in an automobile accident outside of LaGrange, Georgia. A car he was riding in ran a stop sign and careened out of control, rolling over multiple times and coming to rest on the roof.

The driver, Joseph Ian Davis, and Lutzenkirchen were killed while two other passengers in the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe survived and were taken to the hospital.

Director of the Georgia State Patrol’s Public Information Office said that blood was drawn at the scene to determine if alcohol was a factor.

Philip Lutzenkirchen was part of Auburn’s 2010 National Championship team but was forced to quit football in 2012 because of a hip injury.

He was 23 years old.
