Sports Illustrated’s most recent cover features two very different kinds of heroes with one common thread: Boston sports.
The Red Sox were carried to their third World Series title in a 10-year span after superstar slugger David Ortiz batted a record (for a Series that has gone six games) .688 with two home runs. He was named Series MVP in providing Boston with one iconic moment after another.
On the opposite end of the town’s sporting spectrum was the tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon. However, there was positivity in the strength of the human beings that rose up from the ashes that day. Police officers Rachel McGuire and Javier Pagan, as well as Detective Kevin McGill, have all been commended for their heroic acts on that horrific day.
Now, all four stand united together, just like the city they represent.
