2014 second round pick Jimmy Garoppolo had a great preseason with the New England Patriots and earned the second string role behind Tom Brady. While this is great news for the rookie, it wasn’t such great news for Ryan Mallett.
On Sunday, the Patriots traded their 2011 third round quarterback to the Houston Texans for a conditional seventh round pick. The conditions aren’t known right now, but probably have something to do with how long he’s on the roster and how much playing time he gets. Mallet now joins the stable of mediocrity in Houston with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Tom Savage.
The Patriots also shopped Mallett to the Cowboys and Bills before the Texans took them up on their offer.
