Video: Bode Miller breaks down in tears following Super G in Sochi

A very emotional Bode Miller broke down in tears following his Super G bronze at the Sochi Olympics. His brother, Chelone, passed away less than a year ago following an apparent seizure. He was just 29 years old. Miller wanted this one bad, and it showed in his post-race interview.

Following is Christin Cooper’s exchange with Bode, as well full video of the interview (via SB Nation). You can hear Cooper say “I’m sorry” after her last question.

Cooper: Bode, you’re showing so much emotion down here. What’s going through your mind?

Miller: (Long pause) A lot, obviously. A long struggle coming in here. And, uh, just a tough year.

Cooper: I know you wanted to be here with Chilly experiencing these games, how much does it mean to you to come up with a great performance for him? And was it for him?

Miller: I mean, I don’t know it’s really for him. But I wanted to come here and uh — I don’t know, I guess make my self proud. (Pauses, then wipes away tears.)

Cooper: When you’re looking up in the sky at the start, we see you there and it just looks like you’re talking to somebody. What’s going on there?

Fans and media members looking on were not impressed with NBC’s tactics.

You should not state that this is the complete video. The camera lingered on him longer after his head was down, and then followed him as walked over to where his wife was, who consoled him. It was more awkward than what the above video implies, with the footage that followed.
