The Chicago White Sox sent 1B/DH Adam Dunn – and cash considerations – to the Oakland Athletics for minor league pitcher Nolan Sanburn on Sunday.
The trade had been rumored for the last few days and was finalized before the Sunday night deadline (11pm) for postseason eligibility. Oakland will pick up the remaining $2.5 million that Dunn is owed this season.
The White Sox received the A’s organization’s No. 10 prospect (Baseball America) while the A’s received a designated hitter with a home run swing.
For Dunn, the trade gives him the opportunity to play in the post-season for the first time in his 14-year career.
For the Athletics, it gives them home run power in the line up, but also gives them a much higher strike out total for the season.
