What’s the best way to get over a loss in the national championship game? Why to claim a bunch of past titles, of course. According to Auburn AD Jay Jacobs, the Tigers may recognize up to seven extra football championships in the future.
To this we ask, why the heck not? This is America: land of the free and home of the brave. You get a title, and you get a title, and you get a title. Might as well make it rain championships in the great state of Alabama.
Twitter of course took the news and ran with it. Here are a collection of the best reactions from the wild cyber world.
Why stop there? Auburn should be bold, start from the 18th century, and claim the Revolution, 1812, Mexican—but not the Civil War. — RedditCFB (@RedditCFB) January 31, 2014
This is just so goofy, Auburn…. http://t.co/ADtKRNNk3m Rules of life: 1.Don’t give yourself nicknames. 2. Don’t declare yourself champion.

So, Auburn wants to claim 7 more national titles. Just because. Feels like Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy. http://t.co/0Co49HYW8w

If Alabama can falsely claim 15, and Notre Dame can falsely claim 10, then we should let Auburn have their untrue 6.

If Auburn is going to claim old National Championships like Bama, then #UGA should order stadium banners for the 1927, 1946, and 1968 teams.

Auburn loses BCSNCG and all of a sudden wants to start claiming 7 NCs. For what? No one cares about championships over a decade ago.

If Texas did what Auburn may do and “claim” national titles, we’d have 12 more. SEC gonna SEC.

Naturally, one of the first things that comes to mind is Alabama’s titles, to which Auburn fans laugh at.
Auburn should not keep from claiming deserved past national championships just because Alabama does it wrong. They do not matter in this. — WarBlogle.com (@WarBlogle) January 31, 2014
Alabama fans laughing at Auburn for just considering the idea of claiming real titles, all while wearing a ’15′ t-shirt. That’s so Raven. — WarBlogle.com (@WarBlogle) January 31, 2014
There are Alabama fans acting like the act of retroactively claiming titles is the dumbest/funniest thing they’ve ever heard. Alabama fans. — WarBlogle.com (@WarBlogle) January 31, 2014
