ESPN’s College GameDay crew is headed to Seattle for Washington’s big home showdown against the Oregon Ducks. While the battle on the field will be the focus, another scuffle may be happening behind the scenes.
Of its many traditions, one of College GameDay’s longest running is the presence of Washington State University’s two Cougar flags. They have been shipped across the nation, where alumni have proudly hoisted them every Saturday for 133 consecutive shows.
Now, heading into Seattle, the flags face a challenge. Washington Huskies loyalists have stated their intent to break the streak by keeping the in-state rival’s flags away from GameDay’s set. However, if Chris Fowler has anything to do with it, the flags will still fly high on Saturday’s show.
When The Dawg Pack announced their plans, Fowler made it clear that he would provide protection. At that point, the Pack issued the following tweet.
What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a real life game of capture the flag.
