On Tuesday, in a shocking move, Cuonzo Martin decided to leave the University of Tennessee for California. Had this happened midseason, Volunteer fans would have cheered and even rented his moving van. However, after taking UT to the Sweet 16, fans had started to warm up to Martin.
With former coach Bruce Pearl enjoying a new view from The Plains, and having yet another coach leaving for the left coast, the mood on Rocky Top was dark. Here are some of the early reactions from Twitter following the departure:

So Cuonzo Martin takes a commitment while he’s in California interviewing and then has an assistant coach tell his team he left… — Alex Apple (@AlexAppleDFW) April 15, 2014

I liked Cuonzo Martin but I’m willing to bet our next coach can get us into the NCAA Tourney 1 of 3 years. We’ll be OK!

Cuonzo Martin just sent a big middle finger to the entire Tennessee fan base.

And if Martin leaving wasn’t bad enough, here’s a little extra salt for that wound.
Yesterday Kingsley Okoroh committed to Tennessee. Today UT’s coach Cuonzo Martin moves to Cal and so does Okoroh. College recruiting world.

Per those last two tweets, Cuonzo Martin is taking his 7-1 center Kingsley Okoroh to Cal. He committed to UT yesterday.
