I’m convinced the best fails happen when schools post shirts too early. That said, the University of Arizona was the latest program to join the party when it leaked these “2014 NCAA Elite Eight Arizona Wildcats” t-shirts.
A script posted with the shirt read, “The Wildcats had an amazing season and made it all the way into the Elite Eight. It may be the end of basketball season, but don’t let it end your devotion. Show the Wildcats that you’re proud of how hard our University fought. Cheer on the Wildcats, and Bear Down!”
The only problem with all of this: Arizona doesn’t play San Diego State until Thursday.
It didn’t take long for Arizona to pull the shirts. According to U-T San Diego, the school issued the following statement shortly after:
“The University of Arizona BookStores experienced an unintentional leak of a hidden web page that was never meant for public release. This page included designs created in preparation for March Madness, a common practice for most retailers. It was never for sale. The mistake does not reflect any assumptions about tournament outcomes and the UA BookStores sincerely regrets the error.”
And that’s exactly how you don’t want to motivate your upcoming underdog opponent – especially one already up for the game, having lost to the Wildcats earlier this season.
