Rutgers coach Kyle Flood tweeted out a photo of a very special alternate helmet his Scarlet Knights will wear against Temple on Saturday.
The program was looking for a way to acknowledge the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, and will do so with special-edition “Sandy Relief” helmets against the Owls.
The metallic silver lids feature a silhouette of the state of New Jersey behind a block “R” for the school on either side. They also have a thick red double-stripe running down the middle. Finally, in an interesting feature, the helmets almost looks imperfect, which black scratches prevalent throughout. We don’t know if the blemishes signify damages suffered by the region. If so, it’s a very creative touch.
Hurricane Sandy caused roughly $68 billion worth of damage to the East Coast and Jersey Shore in particular.
