Free-agent Shawn Marion has put the whispers to rest and committed to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to ESPN.
Even though the Cavaliers can only offer Marion a veteran’s minimum contract, he has informed them he will be signing later this month. Clearly, Marion is more interested in winning a championship than how much his paycheck will be. The Cavaliers will pay him for $1.4 million for his services.
The Indiana Pacers were the other team in the mix for Marion following the season ending leg injury to their star Paul George. President Larry Bird met face-to-face with Marion, but he was ultimately unable to match the allure of Cleveland.
The pending trade for Minnesota’s Kevin Love is reportedly what put the Cavaliers as the front runners for The Matrix.
