The 2013 BCS Poll is coming out at an interesting time. The eighth week of the season proved to be a cruel mistress to many ranked teams, as Nos. 3 (Clemson to FSU), 6 (LSU to Ole Miss), 7 (Texas A&M to Auburn), 8 (Louisville to UCF) and 9 (UCLA to Stanford) suffered upset losses. It will be difficult for the voters and computers to tabulate the first official rankings on Sunday, Oct. 20.
A week ago we had a cut-and-dry pecking order. Now the BCS could come out with a number of different teams jostling for a spot.
With that in mind, we take a stab at projecting where each team within the top 10 will fall, with only one real certainty: Alabama and Katherine Webb are both still No. 1 in the college football universe.
10. UCLA Bruins – Lost to Stanford, 24-10
9. Clemson Tigers – Lost to Florida State, 51-14
8. Stanford Cardinal – Beat UCLA, 24-10
7. Baylor Bears – Beat Iowa State, 71-7
6. Miami Hurricanes – Beat North Carolina, 27-23
5. Mizzou Tigers – Beat Florida, 36-17
4. Ohio State – Beat Iowa, 34-24
3. Oregon Ducks – Beat Washington State, 62-38
2. Florida State Seminoles – Beat Clemson, 51-14
1. Alabama Crimson Tide – Beat Arkansas, 52-0
Generally speaking, we would not have kept two losing teams in the top 10 – but so many others ranked right up there with them all went down, so we had no choice. Say what you want about Georgia’s injury situation, but Clemson’s season-opening win over the Bulldogs doesn’t look very good anymore. The Tigers’ blowout loss to the Seminoles looks horrible. They will only have one loss, however, whereas SEC teams such as LSU and Texas A&M each showed massive flaws in earning their second defeats of the season.
On the flip side, Florida State has dominated every single opponent they have faced. Compare that to Oregon, whose only respectable wins have come against Tennessee and a Washington team that’s now lost three in a row. We believe the computers will put FSU ahead of the Ducks, due to the ‘Noles’ quality wins.
What do you think? Who do you believe should be in the BCS top 10 when it is finally revealed on Oct. 20?
