Will Muschamp and the Gators coaching staff have blazed a trail down the recruiting path all the way to the nation’s No. 1-ranked class.

According to Mike Farrell of Rivals.com, the nation’s No. 3 ILB and No. 50 overall player, Alexa Anzalone, decided to bypass Notre Dame on Thursday in favor of the sunshine state and the Florida Gators.

Anzalone will enroll early at UF on Friday, becoming the eighth member of the 2013 recruiting class to arrive this spring. He is the 27th commitment for the Gators.

The star linebacker’s father attended college at the University of Florida, which more than likely weighed heavily on his final decision, as well as the uncertainty of Brian Kelly’s future with the Irish.

Anzalone’s commitment moves the Gators to No. 1 in the 2013 recruiting rankings, dropping the Fighting Irish to No. 2.

Welcome to the Gator Nation, Alex!
