Hello Gamedayr Nation – Alex here again!
Well, football season has officially begun – Woot Woot [raise the roof]! << You know you want to…don’t worry, no one is looking.
In my last article I discussed how to keep your cool during the hot and humid games that bestow the beginning of the Southeast’s football season. More specifically, I discussed how to beat the heat in both the SEC and the ACC – because at the end of the day these conferences fall pretty far apart on the style spectrum.
This week, I’m continuing the discussion on versatile looks and focusing on the little things: accessories.
Accessories are what pull an outfit together. If you haven’t noticed, I’m a fan of the not-so-literal looks for game day. Not only does it get exhausting washing the same mundane shirt or polo every week in time for kick off, it just gets…boring and predictable. You don’t want to be boring and predictable do you? (Note: there are some fantastic predictably unpredictable people – but that is a different story)
I’m going to go for the more unconventional androgynous accouterments, with a few extras peppered throughout (who am I to say who can or cannot wear a bow).
SUNGLASSES, or as most of us refer to them during football season, “Hater Blockers” (or maybe that’s just me), are an awesome way to integrate your school colors in an unexpected way. I came across this great company, Horizon Sunglasses, last spring. Not only do they sell your quintessential shades, but they also allow you to customize. From a smorgasbord of frames and lenses, you can create virtually any school combo for just $30! I don’t know about you, but I ALWAYS lose a pair of sunglasses during football season, so this affordable price point is big seller for me. At that rate, get two. All orders over $49 get free shipping.
BUTTON COVERS – button whaaaa?! I have to be strait forward with you on this one: This is my company’s product (photo above). During my final semester in UCF’s MBA program, my partner and I were complaining about the lack in versatility surrounding the button. Bada bing bada boom and we won the University’s Entrepreneurial Joust Business Plan competition earning the money necessary to invest in ALTR’s first round of inventory: UCF and UF Button Covers. By sliding our patent-pending cover over your garment’s existing button, you can ALTR your apparel without a needle and thread. For just $12 (6 small OR 4 large) you can virtually transform your closet into custom collegiate gear! An added bonus: our design allows you to slide it on to sandals, hair accessories, jewelry, bags and even your beer mug and/or solo cup and wine glass. After nearly a year, we’ve obtained licensing approval for UCF and UF. So support your team and your entrepreneurs – Keep calm and button on this football season. PS. Use code: GAMEDAYR to get 20% OFF.
OK…I’m done with my shameless plug.
BOWS, big bows are a fun twist on a typical accessory. Gameday Bows sells big, over-the-top over-sized bows! Offered in various colors and patterns you’re sure to find one perfect for your team. They are the perfect addition to a plain dress or a big floppy hat!
LACES, I love fun shoe laces! There are some really great casual yet nice looking shoes out there for both guys and girls. For those of you who haven’t heard of Hook + Albert, you can thank me later. This online store is more for the fellas; and primarily for more dressed up occasions. However, these subtle yet cool laces paired with some casual Sperry’s (they’ve really stepped it up with their non-boat shoes) is an easy and comfortable way to rock some fun laces. For a more alternative look, grab a set of these metallic laces from this Etsy vendor and pair with your converses (or other pair of sneakers).
This football season, go beyond the standard bookstore staples and get creative with some game day accessories!
**I was not paid to mention any of the featured companies. They were picked purely for their exceptional products and application for game day apparel.**
