For the very first time, the Gonzaga Bulldogs find themselves at the top of the heap as we barrel towards the NCAA Tournament. There had been some issues as to whether or not the ‘Zags deserved a No. 1-seed based on the relative strength of the team’s schedule. However, now the onus is on the rest of the West to take down the school that invented short shorts (please, do a Google search of John Stockton during his playing days out at Gonzaga).

Several other teams that had not been respected throughout the regular season also find themselves in the West. Wisconsin did not get nearly as much pub as several other teams in the Big Ten, but finds itself as a five-seed after making it to the Big Ten tournament finals. They, of course, take on Ole Miss, who only managed to draw a 12-seed despite beating Florida to win the SEC tournament championship.

Here is how the entire 16-team West Region shapes up:

1. Gonzaga
16. Southern U.

8. PIttsburgh
9. Wichita State

5. Wisconsin
12. Ole Miss

4. Kansas State
13. Boise St./ LaSalle

6. Arizona
11. Belmont

3. New Mexico
14. Harvard

7. Notre Dame
10. Iowa State

2. Ohio State
15. Iona
