Some people might call offering eighth graders scholarships crazy, but Lane Kiffin views it as a normal process in the cutthroat world of college football recruiting.
Kiffin offered a scholarship to incoming high school freshman wideout Nathan Tilford, who was blown away at the chance to play for his favorite team.
NBCLosAngeles.com caught up with the young star:
“I said yes right away,” he said. “That has been my dream school. This is where I wanted to go, and I made it here.”
It’s not the first time Kiffin has offered a middle schooler, or even the youngest he’s ever offered.
In 2010, he offered a scholarship to seventh-grade quarterback and Delaware native David Stills. Stills also accepted and is now entering his junior year.
The real question now becomes, will Kiffin be at the helm of the Trojans program when these kids step on campus in Los Angeles?
For that, we’ll have to wait and see.
