AFL to put ‘Schutt Vision’ live-action video technology in helmets

, , ,

The Arena Football League is jumping on the recent trend of first-person videos in order to bring fans a new perspective of the game. GoPro sparked a revolution in the videography industry over the past decade, and now the AFL is taking it one step further for football applications.

The league has partnered with Sports Video Innovations to implement its “Schutt Vision” technology for the upcoming season. The impact-resistant camera, which is the first of its kind, is designed to fit just above the helmet face guard, and will capture live-action video.

“Our League has always strived to stay on the cutting edge of innovation,” Arena Football League Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz said. “Schutt Vision will allow us to make history by placing cameras on multiple players during games for the first time in sports history.”

Following is a look at the camera in action.
