Rumor Mill: Miami’s Al Golden may be headed to Tennessee

Could Al Golden be sporting a new orange next year? (Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE)

Jon Gruden, a Super Bowl-champion coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, got his start as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee. He met his wife in Knoxville.

Now an analyst on Monday Night Football, Gruden’s stature has seemingly grown throughout the coaching ranks. It sounds as if he is ready to return to the sidelines now more than ever.

However, at this point he probably won’t be accepting the open head coaching position with the Volunteers.

That sentence may hurt — nay, sting — for fans having suffered three long years with the inept Derek Dooley at the helm. There just may be someone waiting in the wings; someone with major college football experience and having dealt with programs under major duress.

Luther Campbell, rapper involved with several scandals to his name, tweeted on Nov. 28: “Golden to UT”

Scoff if you like, but while this source may not seem as if it is the most credible, Campbell is not the only one talking about Miami’s Al Golden potentially heading to Tennessee.

Dan Sileo, also known as the ‘Bonecrusher’, played pro football and is now a major sports radio personality. On the same day, Sileo tweeted:

“Tennessee will be in town to speak to Al Golden on Thursday according to reports..and BC wants to raise there salary to $2m to entice Al”

So there you go; two coaching rumors in one. Not only does Sileo have Tennessee trying to woo Miami’s Al Golden, but he sees Boston College in the running as well. The Eagles recently fired Frank Spaziani and they apparently see Golden as the man for their job as well.

Al Golden’s record at Miami is 13-11 in just two seasons at the helm, but his record is largely seen as the product of the environment he took over at ‘The U’.
