Is this really happening? Talk about UniBlog gold if it is – or rather, black gold.
Take a deep breath, ‘Bama fans. If it is actually happening, it’s only for one game.
Alabama is one of the few teams nationwide that hasn’t messed with its uniforms over the last few years. Keeping the Tide’s simple look is a matter of tradition. Recruits understand that the program’s facilities may be ultra-modern, but ‘Bama will never pull an Oregon with its uniforms.
So, what’s all this, then? Is Alabama planning a fan-favorite “blackout” game at some point in 2013? The school’s online shop sure makes it seem so. Above is the jersey already for sale. Below is the caption advertising the new, black threads.
The Crimson Tide are built for hard-hitting, fast-paced gridiron action, and we know that’s exactly why you love them. Promote your Alabama gear to a level that’ll proudly flaunt your team’s skills and your own team dedication with this special Blackout Nike Limited jersey. Designed in the same styling as the gear your favorite players will wear on the field in the 2013 Blackout Game, it features strategic mesh ventilation, embroidered graphics and a tackle twill player number. Congratulations, you just upped your status to Ultimate Alabama Fan!
Wonder how many Tide students will take “Blackout Bama” a little too literally at the Tuscaloosa bars.
*UPDATE* 12:10 Wednesday, Sept. 18
According to Uni Watch’s Phil Hecken, Alabama will not be wearing these black uniforms during the 2013 season. You can now breathe easier, Tide fans.
