Alex Murphy, the little brother of former Florida Gator Erik, has decided to transfer from Duke to Florida. Murphy sent out the following tweet on Tuesday, announcing that it was official.
It’s official, I’m a Florida Gator! I’m more than excited and can’t wait to get down to Gainesville soon!!!

At 6’8, Murphy is a small forward out of Southborough, Massachusetts. He was ranked the No. 45 overall player and the No. 15 small forward for the class of 2011, according to Rivals.com.
In an interview with ESPN.com, Murphy was very thankful for his time with Coach Mike Krzyzewski and excited about the opportunity to further develop under Coach Billy Donovan.
“I really appreciate the experience at Duke, playing for a Hall of Fame coach in Mike Krzyzewski,” Murphy told ESPN.com. “I learned a lot as a player and a person.
“I’ve gotten a chance to know Coach (Billy) Donovan and the program. I think it’s a great fit for me to continue my career. I think they can help me develop as a player — and that I can help them a lot as well.”
Murphy suffered a concussion prior to his freshman year (2011-12) and redshirted for the season. Since then he’s been buried on the bench, seeing minimal playing time.
Donovan developed Erik into a second round NBA draft pick, which was undoubtedly a big draw for the younger Alex.
