Auburn student Zachary Burgess really loves him some Grand Theft Auto. While visiting Baton Rouge over the weekend, Burgess, a freshman lacrosse player, decided to go HAM.
According to NBC 33 News, he stole a truck, rammed it into nine cars, and then drove like a bat out of hell. Oh, and he did it all while holding a passenger against her will.
“We responded to numerous reports of hit-and-runs in the parking lot of a local bar,” Cpl. Don Coppola, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “The vehicle was found abandoned a few yards away from the scene and a group of witnesses were holding the suspect at the location when officers arrived.”
When finally detained by police, Burgess said he “wanted to see what it was really like to play the video game Grand Theft Auto.”
Unfortunately for Burgess, the charges of “Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Hit-and-Run (nine counts) and Simple Kidnapping,” cannot be reset.
He was released on Sunday after posting bond.
Rockstar Games did solid work on the trailer for the new GTA game. Maybe too good.
