In another devastating hit for college football, Cincinnati Bearcats freshman lineman Ben Flick, 19, has reportedly passed away. This comes just two weeks after UCLA lost Nick Pasquale when he was struck and killed by a car.
Flick’s teammates took to Twitter on Sunday morning to express their sentiments.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and the whole entire Cincinnati football family.
*UPDATE* 12:20 p.m. EST, Sunday, Sept. 22
According to a report from CBS Sports, Flick passed away in a single-car accident on Saturday night. The crash injured three others, including two Bearcats, receivers Mark Barr and Javon Harrison.
“I can’t put into words how tragic this is,” Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville said. “As a father and a coach, it’s something you hope you never have to go through. Ben was so proud to be a part of this team and University. He worked hard and had shown a great deal of improvement since the summer. His future was bright. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Flick family on their loss. We also hope and pray for Mark and Javon to recover from their injuries.”
The accident occurred just a few short hours after the Bearcats’ 14-0 win over Miami (OH). Flick was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other three were air rushed to the UC Medical Center.
Harrison’s condition is listed as stable, while the driver and Barr are still in critical condition.
