Billy Donovan has laid the nerves of Gator Nation to rest, for now at least. On Tuesday it was announced that Donovan has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping him in Gainesville through the 2018-19 season.
According to David Jones of USA Today, Donovan’s new deal is worth $3.5 million per year, which is what he’s currently making at UF.
While Donovan is firmly planted in Hogtown, he still finds intrigue in the NBA – despite his brief experience with the Orlando Magic.
“I got into coaching because of the basketball piece of it, and there is an intrigue as it relates to (the NBA),” Donovan said. “When you try to project where your future is, where you’re going to be, and you don’t know because I don’t have a crystal ball, all I can say is I am happy here at Florida. I love being here.”
If it was up to Florida fans, Billy the Kid would never venture to another team’s sidelines. One day he may, but for now, buckle up and enjoy the incredible ride. The Gators are a basketball school with a football program because of him.
