Boise State quarterback Joe Southwick was reportedly sent home from the team’s Hawaii Bowl trip in Honolulu after allegedly urinating off a balcony. Southwick, however, has refuted the claim and is working to clear his name.
“I’m here to … clear my name, clear the name of my parents. People in the community hopefully realize I didn’t do anything wrong and stop throwing my name in the mud.”
The quarterback claims that there was another player urinating off the balcony, but that he was blamed. He so vehemently denies the accusations, that Southwick took a polygraph test and showed it during an interview with KTVB in Boise.
Southwick says that he doesn’t want to turn the issue into negative publicity against Boise State, but that he just wants his name cleared.
“I don’t want this to turn into me against Boise State. I love Boise State. What they’ve been able to do for me these past five years, is life changing. And this situation that occurred the last five days could also be life changing, obviously for the negative for me.”
Here’s a little unsolicited advice, from a person who has been in a similar situation, Joe: it’s not going to be that life changing. If this is the worst accusation you ever have in life, then you’re coming out nicely. I was pinched for nearly the same thing my senior year in high school and it was a blip on the radar. Now you know: if you choose to party in a hotel room, stay on the ground floor.
Plus, when looking at the alleged and actual transgressions of quarterbacks like Brett Favre, Mike Vick and Jameis Winston, being known as the dude who may-or-may-not have taken a leak off the balcony pales in comparison.
