Most old-school coaches attempt to avoid Twitter like the plague or just plain old haven’t heard of it. Newly minted Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema is not among said group of coaches, however.

In fact, the former Wisconsin head man is not only a firm believer in the recruiting potential of the social media service, but he is not afraid to stir the pot when it comes to reacting to men and women who harass him in 140 characters or less.

Most fans might expect their coaches to simply ignore the noise, but Bielema has embraced it since joining the SEC. Why? He spoke about his motivations (via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution) for addressing the haters out there.

“I don’t really try to hate (back). I just kind of try to address them. I always I feel like if you ignore something you know is untrue … then you’re probably setting yourself up for future scenarios you don’t want to deal with. So I just kind of have some fun with it. I don’t really try to insult people. I try to educate them.”

If Arkansas has the year Hogs Nation was forced to deal with in 2012, Bielema won’t be having nearly as much fun, that’s for sure.

Then again, if he goes out and proves he has the mettle to turn around this embattled program, well, he is going to have the last laugh, whether he takes to Twitter to gloat or not.

As for the tweets themselves? Well, they’re actually pretty entertaining.

Quick note: Bielema’s #3inrow is referring to three consecutive Rose Bowl berths (or losses if you’re a Wisco fan), the last of which he wasn’t even on hand for because he had already jumped ship to the Razorbacks.

Now to get into the hating…

It’s no holds barred when it comes to Bielema and Twitter. He cuts down a fat guy, tells another to look in the mirror and even puts out an idiot alert.

Now if only we could get Nick Saban to partake in the Twitter hating.

  • The Pharoh

what Bret does not understand is that The Hogs are a big deal in Arkansas, but they are a STATE program, not a national one. Outside the state of Arkansas, nobody knows (or cares) who the Razorbacks are.

    • Kevin Bryant

Arkansas probably plays in more sold out venues on the road than at home. Reason, Arkansas is a huge attraction wherever they go, but at home their fans have very high expectations and no one want s to watch them lose a game at home when they are a 20 point underdog – like last year.

      • JimboHunter

Reason? Because being in the SEC their road games tend to be against teams whose fan bases actually care, not because they’re excited to see the WooPigs.
