Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson had a day for the history books on Sunday.
The man they call Megatron collected an insane 14 receptions for 329 receiving yards in the Lions’ 31-30 win over Dallas. He’s been a human highlight reel over the years, however, not even he had ever put together a performance like America witnessed against the Cowboys.
Johnson’s 329 yards are second to only the Los Angeles Rams’ Flipper Anderson. Anderson collected an incredible 336 yards on Nov. 26, 1989 against New Orleans.
One thing to note with Anderson’s day, he had the extra benefit of overtime to tack on a few extra yards. If Detroit had whiffed on the extra point following quarterback Matthew Stafford’s insane touchdown with just seconds remaining, who knows? Perhaps Johnson would be the single-game record holder.
Something tells us he’s going to be taking another run at this record at some point in the future.
His teammate, running back Reggie Bush, dropped the mic on Twitter following Johnson’s day.
Calvin Johnson is the greatest receiver in the history of the NFL! #dropsthemic
