Report: Charlie Strong, James Franklin finalists for Texas job, decision in 24 hrs

The Texas Longhorns are reportedly on the verge of naming a new head coach. According to Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com, a source close to the situation says that AD Steve Patterson has Louisville’s Charlie Strong and Vanderbilt’s James Franklin among finalists for the job.

Shortly after Brown’s report, FootballScoop.com confirmed that Strong and Franklin are the two coaches left in the running, and that a decision will come within 24 hours.

Strong’s season is over, having beaten Miami (whose head coach, Al Golden, is rumored to have been offered the Penn State job), 36-9, in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Franklin and Vanderbilt will wrap up the season on Saturday in the BBVA Compass Bowl against Houston.
