Texas and Louisville confirm that Charlie Strong is new Longhorns head coach

This time it’s for real. Both the University of Texas and University of Louisville have confirmed that Charlie Strong will become the new Longhorns head football coach.

News of Strong’s departure from Louisville had been reported since Friday evening. However, it took until late Saturday night for all parties to confirm the move. His introductory press conference will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, the same day as the BCS National Championship Game.

Strong leaves Louisville after four successful seasons, having compiled a record of 37-15. He looks to boost a Texas program that had fallen into relative mediocrity during the final few seasons of former coach Mack Brown.

Here’s hoping. However, he has some big shoes to fill.
