As the college football landscape currently stands, the winner of the SEC championship game earns a virtually automatic berth in the national title tilt. Alabama took home the most recent conference trophy, but the defending national champs certainly do not hold a monopoly on it.
The 2013 season finally dives into the conference slate Week Five, and teams will be jostling to play in the Georgia Dome this coming December.
Which SEC teams are the most familiar with the game’s intense spotlight – and which have been the most successful under it?
The Gators have played in the SEC championship game more than any other school, but Alabama is favored to inch one game closer to Florida’s high mark of 10. While Florida and Alabama have the most appearances, another elite squad boasts the top win-loss mark.
The Bayou Bengals have only played in half as many games as Florida, but they have only lost once and a winning percentage of .800. Conversely, Georgia has appeared in it six times, but been sent home the loser in four of them.
Then there is Arkansas. The Razorbacks hold the dubious record of most appearances (three) without a victory.
