Chipper Jones takes to Twitter to hate on MLB umpires, ESPN, NASCAR

Recently retired following an illustrious 19-year career with the Atlanta Braves, Chipper Jones perhaps has a little too much time on his hands.

Instead of playing video games, gardening, taking yoga classes, biking or literally a million other things, Larry Wayne (yes, that is his real name) Jones has built an affinity for Twitter.

And for tweeting out controversial viewpoints.

Whereas most 40-something males (or really any guys, for that matter) almost instinctively flip on ESPN after grabbing a beer and the remote, Jones volunteered the fact that he no longer even watches The Mothership.

With ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNNews, ESPNU and the station’s online WatchESPN platform, actually not watching it is pretty tough to do.

Of course, this aggressive tweeting comes on the heels of Chipper venting over the fact that Major League Baseball still allows Angel Hernandez to umpire games.

In between Chipper’s anti-Hernandez rant and his anti-ESPN admission, the future Hall of Famer told the nation what he would be watching on July 6.

Of course, the man was not impressed with his race day viewing either.

Wow, maybe somebody should just find Chipper a good book?

  • Rick Daniels

makes me want to follow him on twitter.

    • Anthony13

You should. I do, and he’s entertaining.

    • Softballumpire

It makes me want to block him or maybe follow him and chew his butt out. and yes i know your comments 8 months ago i don’t care.

  • so

He’s right. Angel Hernandez is awful!

  • Anthony13

I like the fact that the filter is off. Let Chipper be. I don’t watch NASCAR, but I agree with Chipper on his other two opinions you touched on. Angel Hernandez is the Eric Gregg of this generation – the hands down worst umpire in MLB. He started off bad this year in the World Baseball Classic and has only deteriorated since. Something needs to be said about Hernandez, and if it’s Chipper saying it, great. As far as ESPN, he’s spot-on about them, too. They are the 800-pound gorilla in the room, and they bully the sports world like no other media outlet EVER has. That’s not healthy for ANY sport.

    • Softballumpire

no the problem is you people clearly don’t know how to umpire even know most if not all the rules that the issue you clearly don’t understand umpires and or basbeall rules

      • Anthony13

        You’re an idiot.

        • Softballumpire

why is that? you guys have never umpired in your entire life. i be more than surprise if you know the rules of baseball.

          what a foul tip
does tie go to the runner
does a batter need to get out of away of the ball these are all common answers many people never get right.

call me an idiot and run away.

          • Anthony13

            Moron,
A foul tip caught by the catcher on the third strike is a strikeout.

There is no such thing as a “tie going to the runner”. Either the runner beat the throw or he didn’t. It’s the umpire’s discretion.

A batter becomes a base runner if he is hit by a pitch while avoiding the pitch. If the opportunity doesn’t exist to avoid it, he is awarded first base, as well. BTW, the pitch has to be OUTSIDE the strike zone. That’s important in Hernandez’ case, because his strike zone is nearly non-existent.

Nobody is running from you, you imbecile.

          • Softballumpire

you ran away called me an idiot and you keep calling me names now lets look at the facts here… when runners takes off and foul tip happens what the rulining? as for a batter has to make an attempt to get out of ball going towards him the ball can hit him and still be called a strike matters on the location but even if its ruled a stirke in the ball drops its a dead ball. i didn’t ask if a batter becomes a base runner i ask if batter has to attempt to get out of the way. can you respone to be like a normal human than some wacko?

          • i_smell_pie

It does not matter if I have never umpired a game or do not know all the rules. If an umpire stinks, then he stinks. You can see it on instant replay. It’s not just about bad calls, it’s their attitudes and how they treat players. Angel Hernandez has a bad attitude, and he needs it adjusted. I don’t need to be an umpire to see that. You’re just taking this too personally because, if there is any truth to your handle, you are an umpire. Umpires need to keep their own feelings out of the game. If you do that, then great. This is not directed towards you. But don’t cover up for your buddies who stink just because it’s a hard job.

        • Sanford

You are the idiot, Anthony, and a classless one at that. Anybody who supports a weasil like Chipper Jones taking cheap shots now that he’s out of the game because he knows there are no repercussions, is as weak and classless as him. Get a life, you loser!

      • i_smell_pie

        Your bias is showing

  • Softballumpire

chipper retired for a reason he has no balls to say out in public but behind a computer. i like to see him umpire see how hard it really is. i have no respect for a guy like this

    • Anthony13

It’s not that difficult calling balls and strikes, and that’s why Angel Hernandez catches so much shit. You aren’t the only person that’s umpired a game. I volunteered a few years of my time doing it, too. Hernandez may know the rules, but he doesn’t know the strike zone. You can have the rule book memorized but if you can’t perform the most basic task of umpiring it does no good..

      • Softballumpire

really its very easy to critical when you never umpire in your entire life. i am sure you if you ask those people they won’t agree with your strike zone. no its people judge by inch’s that the issue. you really show how truly classic act of an jerk you are.

        • Anthony13

Fuck you. Did I not make clear that I have spent time as an umpire? Strike zones are arbitrary, but there are STILL some ground rules. Hernandez is rated the worst umpire in MLB by the players for a reason. Same thing applied to Eric Gregg.
          Eat me…

          • Softballumpire

how cute fuck you is the answer? first off its fast pitch girls softball and secondly i used to umpire boys youth baseball so don’t sit and judge you other people you don’t know.

          • Anthony13

Whatever, retard. Have fun trying to pick fights with others. You bore me.

          • Softballumpire

You can’t even be a man your throwing insults why? why don’t you just admit you started the whole thing at least i didn’t throw insults

          • i_smell_pie

Whether or not someone has umpiring experience is irrelevant. When you see a particular few umpires beat their chests on a consistent basis, I do not need umpiring experience to know these guys need ego checks. It’s not just about bad calls.

          • Softballumpire

btw i have no clue of slow pitch softball rules

        • Anthony13

And congratulations on umpiring softball. I’m sure it’s quite a work-out watching fat people hit dingers all night long.
Unless you umpire fast-pitch. In that case, I admire your effort.

          • Softballumpire

dude i comment and i disagree with your post what is with name calling grow a pair

      • Softballumpire

not to mention you clearly ignored my other points where you fail to even answer keep putting your foot in your mouth

        • Anthony13

Why Eric Gregg wasn’t rehired after almost every umpire that went on strike was:

          http://youtu.be/mR3eK5gCChM

          • Softballumpire

sorry i do not go by a box on a tv screen all boxes are not correct ever station has diffren’t boxes or the zone area. the box needs to be in a 3d way

          • Anthony13

Eric Gregg fucked this game up. You can deny it, or try to explain it away, but he fucked it up.

    • Anthony13

Dickcheese, Chipper retired because he had already made the HOF, made millions playing a GAME, and wanted to hunt more than he wanted to visit the same cities over and over again. What he wanted to hunt is open to speculation, but he didn’t retire because of cowardice.

      • Softballumpire

i have no respect for him at all i have no respect for people like that.

      • Softballumpire

I have no respect of someone calling people names every time he gets to replay back comon man talk to me like a normal person.

      • Myra P.

Anthony13. Your responses indicate you are a classless and childish moron. You and Chipper are exactly what’s wrong with this world; Inconsiderate, selfish cheap-shot artists who will step over anyone’s back for their own cause. You should be ashamed.

And don’t bother taking a jab at me. You’ve already shown your true colors and another response from you will dig you deeper into the hole.

  • Sanford

Goes to show you the lack of character this very talented but whiny player has always had. Now he has to take a cheap shot at an umpire after he’s retired. Do you morons who agree not see anything wrong or twisted about this? Inside information has it that Chipper is a no-good rat and gutless. I hate to burst your bubble if you idolize this poor excuse for a human being.
