Doesn’t it feel like, nowadays, every day, month, game and season there’s some new record or landmark for Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide?
On Wednesday, in anticipation of the preseason AP poll, ESPN dropped this tasty tidbit: Alabama ranks second all-time for beginning a season ranked in the top two, with four consecutive years and counting (’10: No. 1, ’11: No. 2, ’12: No. 2 and ’13: No. 1).
The only team with more consecutive AP preseason rankings at No. 1 or No. 2 is Bud Wilkinson’s dominant Oklahoma squads from 1954-59. The Sooners went 58-5 over that span (undefeated in ’54 through ’56). During its current streak, Alabama has a record of 46-7.
