Alabama Commits Shine At The Opening

Two future Alabama players stole the show during this week’s Nike camp, The Opening. Commit Blake Barnett was named Elite 11 MVP, winning the quarterback competition over 17 other top QB prospects from across the country. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley was named overall MVP of The Opening – with him nabbing jaw-dropping catches such as this, it’s little surprise.

Following his award, Barnett discussed the Crimson Tide’s bright future.

“It’s been great. I fell in love with these players. They’re great players and great people, too. Calvin is an excellent receiver and he showed that on the field. I think that’s what separates him. I think Alabama’s going to have a very strong class this year.”

A former Notre Dame pledge, Barnett dropped his commitment to the Fighting Irish in January, and in June announced his intent to play for Alabama. His family, already in a Roll Tide state of mind, reportedly sported ‘Bama gear all week while cheering on the budding star.

Barnett and Ridley were two of 10 future Tide players to attend The Opening. Alabama’s 2015 class is currently ranked No. 1 overall in ESPN’s recruiting standings.
