Alabama Will Play Anybody In 2015 To Plug Hole In Schedule

It’s time to nut up or shut up for the “We want Bama” contingent out there. The Crimson Tide have a hole in their 2015 schedule and are welcoming anyone who wants to tango. According to Jeremy Fowler of CBS Sports, the Tide have been stuck at 11 games and cannot find a taker to round out the final contest.

From the looks of the 2015 schedule, Alabama is caught between a rock and a hard place. Outside of a difficult SEC slate, the Tide will play Wisconsin (in Arlington, Texas), Louisiana-Monroe and an FCS school as out-of-conference matchups. A second FCS school would severely water down Alabama’s strength of schedule in the eyes of the College Football Playoffs Selection Committee. A second Power Five school may not be willing to travel to Tuscaloosa without the guarantee of a home-and-home.

Athletic director Bill Battle seems determined to keep from scheduling a second FCS team, but is meeting nothing but closed doors.

“Right now we’d take anybody,” Battle said. “We’ve called everybody we know.”

The longer this carries out, “the more expensive it gets,” for Alabama to secure an opponent. Before long, Battle may just have to bite the bullet and the plug the hole any way he can.
