The rigors of holiday travel affected passengers at Gainesville Regional Airport. According to the Gainesville Sun, passengers on Delta flight 5059 were bumped in favor of the Florida Gators basketball team.

After the team’s charter flight was grounded due to mechanical issues, Delta made a judgement call to turn over a commercial flight to the Gators. Delta has since apologized for the inconvenience.

“Delta apologizes to those customers on Delta Connection flight 5059, operated by ExpressJet, who were impacted by the resulting cancellation of their flight,” (Delta spokesman Michael Thomas) stated.

The Gators made their tipoff against UConn in Storrs, Connecticut, only to lose in heartbreaking fashion on a buzzer beater from Shabazz Napier.
