Sunday took a toll on a handful of NFL starters. We first reported that Jake Locker will miss significant time and Vince Wilfork is likely done for the season. Now it’s believed that San Diego pass rusher Dwight Freeney will also miss the rest of 2013-14.
According to Pro Football Talk, Freeney suffered a torn quad tendon in Sunday’s game against Dallas. The Chargers topped the Cowboys 30-21 to improve to 2-2 on the season.
The loss is significant for a team that brought the former Colt on to help shore up its pass rush. The Chargers lost Melvin Ingram for the season with a torn ACL back in May, and Freeney was supposed to step in to provide pressure on quarterbacks.
PFT reports that Freeney will undergo a second evaluation, but as of now the outlook is not promising.
