On Monday, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach released his post-spring practice preseason top 25. Despite winning the last two national titles and three of the last four, he does not rank the Alabama Crimson Tide as his No. 1 squad in the nation.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes

The same Urban Meyer who went toe-to-toe with Nick Saban and the Tide while at Florida is looking to do so again in his second season as the head coach of Ohio State. Meyer and quarterback Braxton Miller helped guide the Buckeyes to a 12-0 finish last year and would have played Notre Dame in the BCS title game, instead of Bama, had it not been for a one-year postseason ban.

Well, next season Ohio State can participate in any bowl game it earns an invite to.

The way Schlabach sees things, that is going to be the 2014 national championship game, against an old, familiar foe in the Crimson Tide.

What do you think about his rankings? Sound off below!

Buckeyes will have blackeyes when BAMA BEATS THEM DOWN !! ROOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL TIDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEE ROOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!

I’ll believe Ohio State is number one when I see it. Ohio State does not have a good record against the SEC in major bowls and they will be playing one of the SEC for the title.

  • Pharoh Man

Thanks, Mr Slabach. You might recall that Alabama was ranked #2, going in to the beat down of Notre Dame. Good work. We appreciate it.

went toe to toe with Bama? he quit after getting beat down by them. If by chance the suckeyes face bama this year then I expect Meyer to quit again after losing to bama

  • Doug Deering

I’m not a Tide fan but hope they drag Ohio’s butt up and down that field to there is nothing left.I have never said this but ROLL TIDE.

    • Rukus

Good for you Doug, Ohio can whoop ass all they want… that is until they play an SEC team, and right now, the Tide is the top. And oh Lord! Let them tangle with TX A&M! LOL!

    • Larry Z.

I don’t blame OSU/Meyer as much as I do ESPN. The media and punduits are ridiculously tired of the SEC winning and in particular Bama.
Bama has won 3 out of 4…back-to-back…and the #1 recruiting class coming in. Still, they think that Bama is #2…let them think what they want. “Some people learn by words, some people by consequences, some people never learn.”

All of these pre season polls are B.S. To rank Ohio St. number 1 with their schedule is just another way to get follks in the other conferences to feel good about themselves until they play an SEC team and then they realize how bad they are regardless of the coach. To even insinuate that any top ranked SEC coach and team are afraid of Urban Meyer and his weak Ohio St team is ridiculous. That’s par for the course we (SEC) go through this every year. Take into account the end of last yr having ND ranked ahead of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida was a travesty considering their schedule and the only merit they could give was they (ND) were undefeated. When anyone who lives in the south knows that any 2 loss SEC team would have spanked ND like a red headed step child. So have your moment Ohio St and Urban Meyer and we will see you at the end of the yr .

schlabach is dreaming , ohio state was only slightly better than notre dame last year and nd had no business being in the championship game. the only way the ou comes close to being #1 is because the big 10 is an inferior conference

    • Ron

Ohio State was a LOT better than ND last year. Would Ohio State have beaten Alabama? Maybe not…. but we will never know. They would have been a better match up. Besides, it wouldn’t have mattered how well they matched up with Alabama, because the national championship game wouldn’t have included Alabama had Ohio State been eligible.

glad to see all you tide fans have not forgotten how to brag, now what position do you play for the tide?

    • Larry Z.

When you win 3 out 4 NC’s…then come back on here with your weak ass comment.

  • Bird

Please, The SEC teams need to find some good teams to play this year.

    • Larry Z.

You talking about teams like Notre Dame, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Michigan and we want even mention the ACC. Just for the record…we play “good teams” every year…it’s called the SEC!

  • Harrison

Oregon State will start season in top 25 and start off season at least 7-0

  • Bird

When SEC teams play out of conference teams; they play weak teams. I do not blame them. That is how they pump up their players and their win record. When they play strong teams; their win record takes them out of the big bowl games.

  • The Pharaoh

Let’s hope it remains this way, at least until January, 2014.

  • Brad Hise

Holy Christ, I don’t think tOSU will prevent ‘Bama from putting up 40 on them.
