According to the Associated Press (via USA Today Sports), a fan tragically fell to his death at Candlestick Park during the San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers game on Sunday. San Francisco police spokesman Gordon Shyy says witnesses saw him fall from an elevated pedestrian walkway and onto a sidewalk. Those same witnesses also told authorities that the man, believed to be in this 30s, appeared intoxicated.
He fell just after kickoff at roughly 1:30 p.m. and while he was given first aid until an ambulance arrived, he wouldn’t make it much longer after impact. He was soon declared dead from his injuries.
Until the family has been notified, the identity of the man who fell will remain undisclosed.
This is the second case of fans falling during the first weekend of NFL games on Sunday. Two fans were badly injured when a rail collapsed during the Raiders vs. Colts game in Indianapolis.
