The legendary Anderson Silva suffered a horrific broken leg against Chris Weidman in UFC 168 on Saturday night.

Weidman took Silva’s title on July 6, and this highly anticipated rematch didn’t disappoint through the first round. The current champ went to work on an aging Silva, dropping him to the mat with a big right hand. Silva regained composure and defended himself on his back to get to the second round.

At 1:16 into the second, Silva attempted a left leg kick. Weidman pull his left leg for the block, which was the cause of Silva’s brutal break.

“I knew that he could hurt me most with the leg kicks. We trained checking the kick a lot,” said Weidman. “The idea is to pull your leg and for the shin to land at the knee. That’s exactly what I did and I felt his leg go right away.”

“I figured if I [caught] him on my knee it could really hurt him. Crazy how this happened.”

Silva crashed to the ground, screaming in pain, in what very well could be the last image fans see of one of the greatest fighters in history.

After the injury, fans took to Twitter to share their reactions. Some shared jokes, while others sympathized.
