Thursday night is loaded with a fantastic sports schedule, from the NFL Draft to the NBA Playoffs, but for Gator fans there is one event that means a little bit more: Florida vs. Vanderbilt baseball.
Why does a regular-season game against Vandy matter, you ask? If Florida registers a win it will break the program’s SEC win streak record of 11 games. The mark was set in 1968, and was matched last weekend with the series sweep over Alabama. Interestingly enough, the first time Florida reached 11 consecutive wins in the SEC was against the Tide.
The slow start to the season for the Gators (UF had a .500 record through the first 12 games) is now a distant memory. Florida is ranked No. 8 in the country with an overall record of 33-16, while also leading the entire SEC with a conference mark of 18-6.
The game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and will air on ESPNU.
