Florida fans may take a look at the current class and recruiting rankings for 2015 and wonder what’s going on with the Gators. To those who are uneasy, we say this: remain patient. The package potentially on its way could be one of the most beautiful recruiting hauls in history.
The state of Florida is once again stacked with top-level high school talent, a majority of which are said to be “near locks” for Will Muschamp and the Gators.
Four 5-star athletes and one 4-star player, all ranked in the top 40 of 247Sports composite rankings for 2015, are seemingly an announcement away from joining the Orange and Blue. Outside of linebacker Jeffery Holland, four players are currently ranked in the top 17.
- Martez Ivey (Apopka, FL) – No. 3 Overall Player, No. 1 Offensive Tackle
- CeCe Jefferson (Glen Saint Mary, FL) – No. 4 Overall Player, No. 1 Strong-Side Defensive End
- Byron Cowart (Seffner, FL) – No. 16 Overall Player, No. 2 Strong-Side Defensive End
- George Campbell (Tarpon Springs, FL) – No. 17 Overall Player, No. 1 Wide Receiver
- Jeffery Holland (Jacksonville, FL) – No. 40 Overall Player, No. 3 Outside Linebacker
While Muschamp has never had an issue bringing in the best defensive talent in the nation, he has struggled on the offensive side. With the addition of new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper, who has had a very successful career developing talent (see: Eli Manning and Arian Foster), the team will likely begin to balance out on both sides of the ball. Roper runs an uptempo, spread offense, which should fill The Swamp with excitement. It should also prevent high school athletes from heading elsewhere due to a slow, boring attack. Both fans and players want to score points, and Roper’s offense promises just that.
The Gators currently rank No. 32 in 247Sports team recruiting rankings. If they manage to land all five of these athletes, expect Florida to skyrocket up the board. LSU is currently the only program with multiple 5-star commits at two. Without any other players committing, the Gators would have 10 recruits on the board, with nearly half being of the 5-star variety. If that ends up being the case, you can expect other talent to eye Gainesville, as top high school recruits tend to flock together.
