The No. 19 Florida Gators topped the No. 13 Kansas Jayhawks, 67-61, in a nationally televised showcase on Tuesday night.
After a slow start, the Gators rode a 21-0 scoring streak to a 36-21 lead at the end of the first half.
Kansas’ superstar freshman guard, Andrew Wiggins, sparked the Jayhawks in the second half. He poured in a total of 26 points, and hit three crucial three pointers down the stretch to keep the game within striking distance. He also finished with 11 rebounds. Wiggins was the only Kansas player to finish in double digits scoring.
The first half run proved too difficult for Wiggins and the Jayhawks to overcome, as the Gators notched a resume-building victory.
Florida senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin led the team in scoring, finishing with 18 points. He also added six assists and four steals.
The win for the Gators improved the team to 7-2 on the season, while dropping the Jayhawks to 6-3.
