A Washington Wizards season ticket holder is offering free tickets on Craigslist. The deal is simple: if the Wizards lose, tickets are free; if Washington wins, tickets are $17. As the seller says, it’s a win-win.
This is the second consecutive season for this promotion. In an effort to prove he’s not a scam artist, the seller, named Tim, interviewed with the Washington Post during the 2012-2013 season.
Apparently Tim is a life-long DC sports fan, and decided to invest in a team with low ticket prices. Rather than sell his tickets on a secondary market site like StubHub, where he would lose money, he decided to come up with his promotion. If the Wizards win, Tim collects a price higher than face value for his tickets. By his calculations, Washington only needs to win 25% of its home games in order to come out ahead.
It’s great to see an entrepreneurial fan engage other sports fans, and also breathe a little life into an up-and-coming team. With John Wall and Bradley Beal, the Wizards are talented and fun to watch. Any fans that take Tim up on his offer will have something to cheer for, win or lose.
