Saturday, Aug. 31, will go down as a day in Georgia football history that fans would like to forget. Not only did the Bulldogs lose the season opener to Clemson, 38-35, but they also lost a key component to their SEC Championship chase.
It has been confirmed that starting junior wide receiver Malcom Mitchell suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the 2013 season.
More proof that Saturday was just not the Dawgs’ night is the fact that Mitchell didn’t even tear his ACL during a play. He suffered the injury celebrating following Todd Gurley’s monster 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
During the 2012 season, Mitchell reeled in 40 passes for 572 yards and four touchdowns.
Now, Richt will have to scramble to fill his void with South Carolina looming this upcoming Saturday.
